Facilities Operations

Operations of Facilities operates and maintains all NNSA-owned programmatic capabilities in a state of readiness, ensuring that NNSA’s workforce and facilities are operationally ready to execute any tasks identified in NNSA’s Defense Programs. Most of the work includes ensuring that NNSA’s infrastructures and facilities operation in a safe, secure, reliable, and “ready for operations” manner. Specific activities include, but are not limited to, maintenance; utilities; environment, safety, and health; addressing safety issues; implementation of rules; and other facility-related support activities.

Aside from working with each facility, the Operations of Facilities has set up an Institutional Site Support program, which supports corporate activities across the nuclear weapons complex, including the planning for smaller facilities and modern equipment that support NNSA’s programmatic missions while reducing operating/maintenance costs. This program will play a key role in NNSA’s Complex Transformation efforts, which will need to maintain current and future operations with a smaller workforce, growing maintenance needs, and increasing regulatory requirements.
