Navy Base Operations & Support

These services are neccessary to maintain Naval readiness and for the quality of life of our Nation's sailors.

Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Adequate

This rating describes a program that needs to set more ambitious goals, achieve better results, improve accountability or strengthen its management practices.
  • The program has a clear purpose and is guided by useful performance measures that ensure the Navy can provide the critical services necessary to support the force during a time of war and with competing demands on available funding.
  • While the program appears to meet the Navy's needs, the lack of common metrics across the Department of Defense makes it difficult to compare the Navy's Base Operations and Support program with that of other services or private enterprise.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Developing, with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, definitions and performance metrics for all base support services that are common across all military services.
  • Developing, with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, cost models and performance metrics for all base support services that are common across all military services.
