Economic Research Service

The mission of the Economic Research Service is to provide economic analysis on issues related to agriculture, food, natural resources, and rural development to improve public and private decisionmaking.

This is the highest rating a program can achieve. Programs rated Effective set ambitious goals, achieve results, are well-managed and improve efficiency.
  • The Economic Research Service ensures the quality of its research through internal and external peer reviews of its publications, as well as independent program reviews. The external peer review is conducted by independent expert panels.
  • Customer satisfaction with Economic Research Service products has been at or above target, while the number of publications has grown over the past four years. The number of publications has grown while staffing levels have declined.
  • The Economic Research Service is monitoring the timeliness of its research through the correlation between its activities and coverage in the media and the level of public interest as demonstrated through website visits. The program relies on an external advisory board to determine its research priorites.
