 UN General Assembly Adopts New Draft Resolution on the Decade to Roll Back Malaria
New York, USA, 22 December 2008: The United Nations General Assembly met on Dec 22, 2008, to address the Decade to Roll Back Malaria for which it considered draft resolution number A/63/L.62. The text welcomes the Global Malaria Action Plan that, for the first time, provided a comprehensive strategy for combating the disease in the short, medium and long term. The plan also gives further impetus to internationally agreed targets of universal coverage of malaria interventions for all at-risk populations by 2010, with the ultimate goal of eradicating the disease.

 Germany, a key player in tackling malaria, highlights Global Plan to save over 4 million lives by 2015
Berlin, Germany, 18 December 2008: At a conference organised by the European Alliance Against Malaria this week, Germany was highlighted as being a key player in maintaining focus in global health investments and subsequently meeting the Millennium Development goals.
The Global Malaria Action Plan (GMAP) was presented by Prof Awa Coll-Seck, Executive Director of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, to a number of key policy-makers in Berlin where Germany's role in reaching the aim of defeating malaria was described as absolutely vital. The GMAP details how to accelerate action against malaria, across countries and regions, leading to elimination of the disease.
"Germany is the third biggest donor to the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria and is an increasingly important player on the ground in Africa tackling the disease," said Dr Coll-Seck. "Given the current economic situation, Germany’s continued political and economic leadership is absolutely vital if we are to meet our objective of reducing malaria deaths to near zero by 2015."
 APPMG launches a report on improving delivery of malaria control tools
London, UK, 17 December 2008: The All Party Parliamentary Group on Malaria & Neglected Tropical Diseases (APPMG) released today specific recommendations for improved delivery of malaria control prevention and treatment as part of its fourth report, entitled "Delivering Malaria Control to Those in Need: How to Succeed in a Time of Renewed Hope".

 Faith Community Pledges Greater Collaboration on Malaria Elimination
Washington DC, USA, 16 December 2008: More than 50 high-level leaders from the faith, international development, and public health communities came together for the Leadership Consultation on Scaling up Faith Community Impact against Malaria. This special event was hosted by the new Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty (CIFA) to promote greater collaboration on malaria control among diverse faith groups and congregations.

 Global Fund Partnership Forum- RBM applauded for supporting countries
Dakar, Senegal, 10 December 2008: 500 delegates representing all stakeholder groups of the Global Fund gathered at the Fund's 2008 Partnership Forum to discuss ways to improve partner coordination at national, regional and global levels. Participants commended the Roll Back Malaria Partnership for its extensive country support effort in 2008. RBM helped mobilise US$1.6 billion in grants from the Global Fund for 14 malaria-endemic countries.
