Issue Name |
Payment for Concurrent Care |
Issue |
Family Physicians had complained that when they have one of their patients admitted to the hospital by a hospitalist or other non family physician they might not be paid for visits on the patient. |
Status |
CMS policy has been clarified, and it is appropriate to pay for the family physician's concurrent care as long as the admitting physician is not also a family physician. The admitting physician would bill for Initial Hospital Care (99221-99223) while the family physician would use Subsequent Hospital Care codes 99231-99233. |
