Coordinating Office for Global Health
Global Disease Detection Centers
To make early detection and containment a reality around the world, CDC is developing a network of Global Disease Detection (GDD) Centers in partnership with Ministries of Health. Additional partners include WHO, U.S. Departments of State and Defense, U.S. Agency for International Development and academic institutions. Centers currently in place are:
- China
- Egypt
- Guatemala
- Kenya
- Thailand
- Kazakhstan
GDD Centers make it possible for CDC to coordinate its own resources and expertise more effectively, build capacity at regional and global levels, and work directly with individual countries around the world. To achieve these goals, GDD Centers bring together in-country the well established programs of:
- The Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP),
- The International Emerging Infections Program (IEIP)
- Influenza activities
