The Center for Public Health and Community Genomics
(CPHCG)
at the University of Michigan launched the new Mid-West
Community Genetics Forum in 2007.
The purpose
of this forum is to engage and educate Midwest
communities on genomics and encourage feedback on issues
of genomic research and practice.
Five face-to-face forums were held on October 12, 2007,
in Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. An
interactive website will be developed for education,
discussion, and sharing views to policy-makers. Special
emphasis will be placed on engaging diverse communities
highlighting populations disproportionately experiencing
health disparities.
CPHCG was awarded a grant in 2006 from the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
to support the forum. CPHCG activities are also
supported by CDC's National Office of Public Health
Genomics.

director of CPHCG, at salmeyer@umich.edu.
