This videotape deals with the experiences of two miners in escaping an underground coal mine fire in 1988. It illustrates the importance of knowing effective self-rescue and escape procedures. During their interviews the miners describe:
- How they received and interpreted the initial warning to evacuate the working section.
- Problems with self-contained self-rescuers.
- Leadership roles and how leadership emerged during the escape.
- Types of behavior exhibited by various crew members.
- Decisions that were made and who made them.
- The importance of knowing the escapeways in the working section.
