Reporting Utility Fails to Open

Occaisionally the ANSWR.SYS file becomes corrupt. The ANSWR.SYS files contains pointers to your Studies as well as login ids for the system. You will need to have AnSWR recreate this file. Once recreated you will need to readd your user login ID, and all the Studies you currently have.

To correct this problem.

  1. Open AnSWR
  2. Make a list of all your Studies and their locations. You need to be sure you have the exact names for the Studies.
  3. Close AnSWR
  4. Make sure your file manager is set to show hidden files with .SYS extensions
  5. Find the file ANSWR.SYS in the main AnSWR folder, usually C:\Program Files\AnSWR.
NOTE: Do not touch the ANSWR.SYS file located in the C:\Program Files\AnSWR\System folder
  6. Rename the AnSWR.SYS file to something like ANSWR.OLD
  7. Restart AnSWR
  8. You will need to recreate your login ID. Make sure to use the same login ID.
  9. After logging in using your list of studies from step 2, readd each Study as a new study.

New Installs under Windows XP or 2000

Since giving users local admin privileges is considered a security risk as well as a liability, AnSWR may not install/run on systems where users do not have admin rights.

To correct this problem, and to run Answer as a normal user

  1. Install logged in as local or domain administrator, or use the Run as command with local or domain privileges under user account.
  2. Go to the AnSWR folder and set Full control.
  3. Run program for first time as domain or local admin or with the run as command under the user so it can modify the all .mdb and .sys files.
  4. Log off and run as normal as a user with out Admin Priv
