CFIA has completed investigations of 13 cases of BSE in Canadian cattle.


Case 13 (Confirmed 2008-06-23)

The investigation is complete. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems and no additional cases of the disease were detected during the investigation.


Case 12 (Confirmed 2008-02-26)

The investigation is complete. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems and no additional cases of the disease were detected during the investigation.


Case 11 (Confirmed 2007-12-18)

The investigation is complete. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems and no additional cases of the disease were detected during the investigation.


Case 10 (Confirmed 2007-05-02)

The investigation is complete. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems and no additional cases of the disease were detected during the investigation.

Case 4 (Confirmed 2006-01-22)

The investigation is complete. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems and no additional cases of the disease were detected during the investigation.


Case 3 (Confirmed 2005-01-11)

The investigation is complete. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems and all animals depopulated through the investigation tested negative for BSE.


Case 2 (Confirmed 2005-01-02)

The investigation is complete. No part of the animal entered the human food or animal feed systems and all animals depopulated through the investigation tested negative for BSE.


Case 1 (Confirmed 2003-05-20)

The investigation is complete. No meat from the animal entered into the human food supply. The carcass was rendered and was excluded from the ruminant food chain in accordance with Canada's feed ban. All animals depopulated through the investigation tested negative for BSE.


Washington State (Confirmed 2003-12-23)

A case of BSE was confirmed in Washington State on December 25, 2003. The investigation is complete. The investigation determined that the cow was born on an Alberta farm. All animals depopulated through the investigation tested negative for BSE.
