Beginning with FY 1999, the Balanced Budget Act (BBA) of 1997 requires states to submit all their eligibility and claims data to CMS on a quarterly basis through the Medicaid Statistical Information System (MSIS). States submit individual eligibility data and claims tapes to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in five file formats. The Federal requirement for the HCFA-2082 form was eliminated.

The FY 1999 - FY 2004 tables currently contain 25 national state-by-state tables. These tables contain high-level aggregated statistics which are similar to the older national HFCA-2082 tables, but are more relevant to current data interests. Note that the data in these tables are not exactly comparable to the older year tables because data categories have been updated for both eligibility and claims data and the data definitions may have changed.

These summary data are also available for download directly from this site by clicking on the link in the "Downloads" section below. The national tables are provided in both PDF and CSV spreadsheet compatible formats. The information contained in the unzipped CSV files is identical to the PDF files and provides the files in a format compatible with most spreadsheet applications.

Note: The 2003 MSIS Tables were revised as of 01/26/2006 in order to correct data for HI and NM.
