Eligibility and Application Information
Applicants should have a strong interest in a leadership and management career in public health.
To apply for PHPS, you must
- Meet both the educational and work requirements.
- Be willing to commit to a 3-year full-time program.
- Be willing to relocate.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
Eligibility
Educational Requirements
- Master’s degree in public health or management related fields from an accredited college or university.
- Academic achievement in areas of
- Epidemiology, and biostatistics,
- Biological, physical, and environmental sciences,
- Behavioral and social sciences,
- Health education and promotion, or
- Management and administration.
Work Requirements
You must have at least 2,080 hours of paid public health work experience. This is the equivalent of 1 year, full-time work. Multiple paid work experiences qualify. Work experience can include paid internships, externships, and fellowships.
Examples of paid, public health work experience include, but are not limited to
- Special project coordinator in a health department,
- Graduate student researcher or research assistant in a school of public health,
- Community disease investigator,
- Health education specialist,
- Program coordinator for a community-based public health organization, or
- Program consultant for a non-profit public health organization.
U.S. Citizenship
U.S. citizenship is required.
Personal Attributes
The PHPS program is seeking candidates with the following skills:
- Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills,
- Flexibility, ability to adapt quickly and enjoy challenge of change, including relocations,
- Ability to work as part of a team,
- Ability to formulate plans of action, and
- Leadership and management skills.

Application Process
You may apply online before February 15, 2009. Additional supporting documents are required.
Supporting Documents
Supporting documents must be received in the PHPS office by February 27, 2009.
Letters of Recommendation
- Three letters of recommendation are required.
- Select persons who are familiar with your academic or employment achievements, future aspirations, personal qualities, and professional attributes.
- Provide them with a copy of the PHPS Request for Letter of Recommendation
(1 page; 38 KB).
- At least one supervisor is required.
Transcripts
- You must provide official transcripts for all degrees you have earned.
- If you are currently completing a master's degree, submit your current transcript by the deadline. If accepted, your final transcript must be received by August 3, 2009. Acceptance to the program will be revoked if final transcripts are not received by this date.
- High school transcripts are not required.
Deadlines
February 15: Deadline for submission of the online application.
February 27: Deadline for receipt of all supporting material.
If you are currently completing a Master's degree, your final transcript must be received before August 3.
