Vegetation Mapping

Introduction

The Remote Sensing Lab (RSL) vegetation mapping team is responsible for producing a comprehensive vegetation database that meets regional and national vegetation mapping standards. A mapping methodology has been developed to capture forest vegetation characteristics using automated, systematic procedures that efficiently and cost-effectively map large areas with minimal bias. Map attributes consist of vegetation types, using the Calveg classification system, and forest structural characteristics. See the Vegetation Classification page for more information. Map updates are completed on a five year coordinated schedule as a key component of the vegetation monitoring program. See the Monitoring page for more information.
