Welcome to the Remote Sensing LabThe Remote Sensing Lab (RSL) was opened by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region 5 on November 5th, 1990. The RSL office was established to work on cooperative mapping and resource assessment projects with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF), Fire and Resource Assessment Program (FRAP). Cooperative projects are the means to facilitate joint data collection, processing, establish common mapping standards across all ownerships, and provide timely response to both State and Forest Service information and analytical requirements. The various cooperative mapping projects include; existing vegetation typing, change detection and accuracy assessments, surface fuel and fire history, watershed, stream, transportation, soils and range allotments. The Ecosystem Planning, Remote Sensing Lab Staff is now co-located with the Wildland Fire Training Center at 3237 Peacekeeper Way, McClellan, California, 95652. State and Private Forestry - Forest Health Protection and Enterprise Team - Streamline have staff co-located at this office. Co-location of staffs facilitates cooperation and sharing of hardware, software, expertise, and an extensive library of imagery and map data sets. RSL visitors since 01/02/02 |
