HYDRODYNAMIC MODELLER (BAND 6)

We are seeking to recruit a scientist to join POL's world-class modelling team to continue the development of coupled wave-hydrodynamic models, both for research purposes and for the development of pre-operational systems through our collaboration with the UK Met Office. The post will involve model development and model data-intercomparison, for example investigating new ideas for optimization of shallow water wave model source terms and implementation of the 2-way interaction mechanisms between waves and mean flow in three dimensions. The development of coupled tide-surge-wave models for prediction of coastal flooding will be a key component of the work. The successful candidate will also work on the interdisciplinary application of these models e.g. in modelling air-sea interaction, turbulent mixing, sediment transport and coastal morpho-dynamics, and will be involved in long-term wave climate modelling.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in numerical modelling, preferably in an oceanographic/environmental fluid dynamics context. He/she will hold a PhD (or similar research experience) and a good honours degree, both in a numerate physical science, engineering or mathematics discipline. Experience and evidence of initiative, problem solving, ability to work independently and to write scientific research papers is required.

For further information about the post please contact Dr Judith Wolf on 0151 795 4849 or Dr Jason Holt on 0151 795 4853 for an informal chat.
