Maloney Statement on the Nomination of Steve Murdock as Census Director |

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), a long-time champion of the Census and former ranking member on the Government Reform Census Subcommittee, made the following statement today on the nomination of Steve Murdock as the new Census Director:
“It appears the President, after a lengthy delay, has finally nominated a career professional to be the Census Director. Dr. Murdock has a reputation for professionalism and independence. I expect the Senate will closely scrutinize his nomination given the importance of the Census Bureau, the preparations for the 2010 Decennial, and this administration's lack of support for the career professionals at Census. Dr. Kincannon's leadership will be missed.”
