Consulates and APPs

About Us

U.S. Ambassador to France Felix Rohatyn and Mayor Edmond Hervé inaugurated the American Presence Post (APP) in Rennes in January 2000.

APP Rennes was established to build greater understanding of the United States in western France and to expand the strong ties of friendship between the two nations.

Its missions are:

• to support American business

• to promote greater exchanges between the United States and the regions of western France

• to provide limited consular services to American citizens

• to provide information on the United States and American policy to American and French citizens

Rennes’ central location provides convenient access to the area covered by the APP, which includes Lower Normandy, Brittany, and Pays de la Loire.

The office in Rennes cannot provide visas to French citizens. All questions related to visas to the United States should be referred to the American Embassy Visa Services in Paris.

The office is closed on French and American holidays.

Consular District

APP Rennes’ district includes the three regions in France’s northwest: Brittany, Pays de la Loire, and Lower Normandy. The area is renowned for its agricultural produce, including Normandy’s apple and dairy products, the seafood of Brittany, and the Loire Valley’s wines. Western France is home to equally dynamic shipbuilding telecommunications and information technology industries, particularly in the areas surrounding Nantes and Rennes. Its cultural attractions run the gamut from ancient castles and Celtic ruins to contemporary art museums.
