U.S. Government Leads in Support for Efforts to Fight Malaria in Angola

Ambassador observes indoor spraying in Lubango
On September 23, US Ambassador to Angola, Dan Mozena made an official Ambassadorial trip to two Southern Angolan provinces. During the trip Ambassador Mozena participated in the inauguration ceremony of the fourth round of USAID-funded indoor residual spraying against malaria-causing mosquitoes in Huila province.  Ambassador Dan Mozena made remarks before 230 spray operators and trainees who will fumigate an expected 80,000 houses in the province, protecting an estimated 440,000 people as part of the United States government’s President’s Malaria Initiative.  In his remarks Mr. Mozena said: “I hate malaria because it kills children.  In sub-Saharan Africa one child dies approximately every 30 seconds from malaria.  In Angola, one of every five children dies, the majority of them due to malaria.”
