Russia Crash:  A Russian passenger jet has crashed while landing in the Siberian city of Irkutsk, killing at least 120 of the 200 people on board.
The Sibir Airlines Airbus A-310 crashed this (Sunday) morning on a flight from Moscow. The passengers included a group of children traveling to nearby Lake Baikal, a popular tourist destination just north of the Mongolian border.
The airliner ran off the runway at Irkutsk airport and hit a concrete structure before catching fire. Emergency workers have recovered about 120 bodies from the wreckage and are searching for other passengers still missing and feared dead.
Officials say about 50 people were taken to hospitals suffering burns and other injuries. Eleven passengers refused to be hospitalized after climbing out of the burning plane. All eight crew members were killed.

Iraq:  Iraqi police say masked gunmen have killed at least 37 people in a rampage of violence against Sunni Muslims in western Baghdad.
Authorities say the gunmen stopped cars at a fake checkpoint in the predominantly Sunni Jihad district today (Sunday), ordered passengers out and killed them.
An Interior ministry official said Shi'ite gunmen had been roaming the area, checking people's identity cards for Sunni names.
The violence happened in an area close to a Shi'ite mosque, where a car bomb killed at least two people late Saturday.

NoKor Missile:  Japan is calling on the United Nations to send a strong message to North Korea and support Tokyo's draft resolution to sanction Pyongyang for testing missiles.
Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso today (Sunday) urged the U.N. Security Council not to compromise on the issue just because Council member China opposes the draft resolution.
Many U.N. Security Council members support Tokyo's proposal, but China and Russia - both with veto power - have pushed for milder wording in the document. A vote on the issue is expected Monday. Aso says China risks isolation if it votes against sanctions.

India Missile:  India is reported to have has test-fired its new nuclear-capable Agni Three missile.
Indian news reports say the launch took place today (Sunday) at India's main missile testing center on Wheeler's Island in eastern Orissa state.
Analysts say the launch of the missile, with a range of more than three thousand kilometers, is seen as a routine test, and not a show of force.

Israel-Palestinians:  Israel pounded the Gaza Strip with fresh air raids and artillery today (Sunday), after rebuffing a proposed ceasefire by the Palestinian prime minister.
Palestinian medical officials say at least three militants were wounded in an air strike near the Karni commercial crossing between Gaza and Israel. Witnesses also reported heavy shelling in eastern and northern Gaza.
Earlier today (Sunday), two rockets landed in the Israeli town of Sderot, wounding at least one person. The armed wing of the ruling Palestinian militant group Hamas said it launched the rockets.
