Software Disclosure/DistributionLaboratory employees who develop software have specific obligations and responsibilities related to the dissemination of scientific and technical software developed at LANL. The Laboratory has been effective in its ability to enhance U.S. industrial competitiveness by making available to industry, universities, and other government organizations new and/or improved software applications by commercially licensing or freely distributing software developed by its code developers. Software must be reviewed by the Classification Office (S-7) before dissemination. Once a Los Alamos Computer Code (LA-CC) release number has been assigned, the Tech Transfer (TT) Division evaluates the software for intellectual property protection requirements. All Laboratory-developed software must be deposited with the Energy Science and Technology Software Center (ESTSC) operated by DOE's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Note: Due to the General Public License (GPL) restrictions, TT will not license or otherwise commercialize any software that incorporates any library or other software governed by the GPL. If an author wants his/her work commercialized, TT will reconsider the work only if (a) the author has not distributed the work in any fashion; and (b) the author recreates the work using non-GPL libraries and source software.
