Thai authorities have agreed to give illegal workers from Laos, Cambodia, and Burma another 90 days to come up with insurance money. Illigal workers now must pay between 10,000 - 50,000 Bahts to register and be able to work legally in Thailand.

Since March 1, less than 10,000 alien workers are reported to have paid their insurance money. It is estimated that currently there are around one million illegal workers in Thailand, including more than 300,000 from Laos.

Experts say the extention will do no good, and they don't expect more alien workers to come forward with insurance money because of the exorbitant sums.
