A joint study by UNICEF and the Lao government on the situation of Lao workers who have fallen victims of transnational human trafficking reveals that 60% are female, aged between 12 - 18 years old. 35% of those arre forced into prostitution in neighboring countries, especially Thailand.

 

32% are forced to work as household servants, while 17% work in sweatshops. And at least 5% work as helping hands on fishing boats in Thailand’s coastal provinces.
