IRAQ: Iraqi police say two suicide car bombers detonated their vehicles near a police station in Baghdad today (Sunday), killing at least 10 people and wounding about 75. The attack occurred in the mostly Shi'ite al-Bayaa neighborhood, killing police and civilians. On Saturday, gunmen shot and killed the chairman of the Fallujah City Council, weeks after his predecessor was murdered. Both men were outspoken critics of the group, al-Qaida in Iraq.

eastern city of Khost, near the Pakistan border, have killed at least seven people and wounded many others. Officials today (Sunday) said a suicide bomber blew himself up near a market as he was being chased by police. The blast killed at least six civilians and wounded at least 40 others. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.

FRANCE-ELECTION:
French voters are choosing a successor to President Jacques Chirac who is stepping down after 12 years in office. Twelve candidates are contending for the office today (Sunday), with conservative Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist Segolene Royal considered the front-runners. Recent opinion polls indicate that about 40 percent of voters are still undecided. If no candidate wins a majority in the first round, the top two candidates will face each other in a runoff scheduled for May sixth.

rebels have been killed in two separate clashes with government forces in the northeastern part of the country. The defense ministry said today (Sunday) that soldiers killed five Tiger rebels in a gunbattle Saturday in northern Vavuniya district. Troops shot and killed four Tamil Tiger rebels in the same area late Friday.

BANGLADESH POL:
Officials in Bangladesh say an arrest warrant has been issued for opposition leader and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is wanted on charges of murder. Authorities say a court in the capital, Dhaka, issued the warrant today (Sunday) for Ms. Hasina and two of her associates (Mohammad Nasim and Abdul Malek). Ms. Hasina is accused of playing a role in four killings during a riot in the Paltan area of Dhaka last year, allegedly committed by members of her opposition Awami League.
