“The Second Avenue Subway has been a top priority of mine since I first came to Congress.  It’s a great joy to finally see this important project moving forward,” Maloney said.  “This is the largest infusion of federal funding to date for the Second Avenue Subway and great news for all New York City straphangers, especially those who ride the Lexington Avenue line, the most overcrowded subway in the nation.”

“Updating and expanding the New York City Subway system is a particularly good use of taxpayer dollars,” said Serrano, who is the only New York City Member on the House Appropriations Committee. “The Subway is central to the functioning of our great city. The new 2nd Avenue line will greatly improve our system, and take pressure off other adjoining lines. I was glad to play a part in securing these funds to keep this project moving forward.”

Serrano and Maloney have been long-time supporters of the Second Avenue Subway project, which when completed, will ease overcrowding and delays on the Lexington Avenue line, and provide new more convenient service for many users on the East Side of Manhattan.
