ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- A 2.25% scale model of the X-33
flight demonstrator has been successfully hot fired. The model
simulates the propulsion system hot exhaust gases for the X-33,
and provides data which are useful in quantifying and validating
the thermal environment in the aft end of the vehicle during powered
flight
- Nitrogen buffer gas delivery
system and fast acting electrically actuated propellant valve capability
has been demonstrated
|
COMMERCIALIZATION
- The hardware and testing
method will be marketed to Launch Vehicle prime contractors to support
their development of the RLV, Expendable Launch Vehicles and Air
Breathing Reusable Launch Vehicles
- A simplified set of
test hardware will be offered along with the instructional software
as a teaching aid and research tool for mechanical, aerospace, and
propulsion departments at Universities
|
GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE
APPLICATIONS
- X-33 Plume induced
convective heating and base pressure environment definition
- Potential application
to RLV and future launch vehicles
- A Phase III contract
will assist in conducting X-33 high altitude testing in MSFC Nozzle
Test Facility
- Phase II was up to
10X cheaper than STS Test
