Burnett County |
Burnett County is located in northwest Wisconsin in the St. Croix River Valley and was formed in 1856 when it was separated from Polk County. The newly-established Burnett County included the area that is now Washburn County until 1883.
Burnett County was named in honor of Thomas Pendleton Burnett, a lawyer and prominent member to the Constitutional Convention, with the purpose of organizing the Territory into a state. Unfortunately, Thomas Burnett died before he could see the result of his efforts toward the formation of the State of Wisconsin.
The county seat is Meenon, but Siren is used as a mailing address for county offices. The Saint Croix Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Reservation is in Burnett County.
