If anything, the restrictions on the "Do Not Call" list are too weak. We already receive recorded messages which provide no "opt out" information, and no way to contact anyone about opting out. We get calls where,when we answer, the caller immediately hangs up, and shortly thereafter, an unanswered call will generate a recorded message on our answering machine. The obvious conclusion is that they'd prefer to dump recordings on us than actually pay people to deliver their messages. We also get calls from companies purporting to be conducting surveys which they are blatantly trying to turn into solicitations of business. All this makes "opt out" nonsense. The default should be that we're opted out of any telephone solicitation, political or charitable solicitation via telephone, or pollster calls, and only by explicitly granting approval to telephone solicitation or polling, in writing, should such calls be allowed.
