Please DO NOT create the additional call abandonment safe harbor mentioned above. If you are considering any action in this area it should be to require an opt-in provision for receiving solicitations from business that I have established relationships with. I pay for my telephone line in order to make and receive calls for my benefit. I opted to join the do not call list because I do not want to received calls from ANY telemarketer, live or recorded, for services offered. The do not call list has greatly reduced the number of unwanted calls I receive; please do not reduce the improved quality of life I have experienced since it's implementation. The last political campaign reminded me just how much the do not call list has improved my life as unwanted prerecorded political messages filled my answering machine. I do not want to have this annoyance continue year 'round from telemarketers regardless of whether or not I have established a business relationship with them. I am perfectly cabalbe of contacting a business if and when I want to know what they can do for me. What we need is stronger consumer protection law.
