Sirs: The Do Not Call List must not be watered down by exceptions and special interests. As a small business owner, I understand the need for marketing, but cold calling and faxing is obnoxious and unproductive. The privacy and peace and quiet rights of citizens should be sacro sanct. Your current rules are weak enough to already allow for massive abuse. The Do Not Call List has helped, but should go farther. I have a fax machine and dedicated phone line which has become obsolete: I can't leave the fax machine on without being bombarded by offers for travel, home loans, stock market opportunities, health insurance, etc. My customers ask why they cannot conveniently fax me. The internet and other new technologies offer businesses ample new marketing opportunities, but just as roadside billboards multiplied to the point of abuse in the 1960s, the time has come to say no to unwanted calls and faxes. Thank you for standing up for the sanctity of the peaceful American home.
