SENIOR COUNTERTERRORISM OFFICIAL: “[T]HEY ARE GOING TO ATTACK AND HIT US HARD”

New York City – Today, Bush Administration officials are warning of “highly credible” new terror threats by al-Qaeda operatives in the United States, but insisting that the national threat level does not need to be raised. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn), a Member of the House Homeland Security Task Force, released the following statement:

“Well, which is it?

“If the Bush Administration knows of impending terror threats, they should immediately share that information with local law enforcement. And if there is something constructive that the public can do, they should share that too.

“But sending wildly mixed signals does little more than engender public panic. The war on terror is supposed to get al-Qaeda on the run, not us.”
