200 SENIORS FROM BROOKLYN AND QUEENS PARTICIPATE IN SENIOR HEALTH CARE TOWN HALL

CONGRESSMAN WEINER, NATIONAL SENIOR HEALTH CARE GROUP ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT MEDICARE, SOCIAL SECURITY, PRESCRIPTION DRUG COVERAGE

Brooklyn, NY - Today, approximately 200 seniors from Brooklyn and Queens attended a senior health care town hall meeting, hosted by Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn & Queens). At the meeting, Rep. Weiner and Max Richtman, Executive Vice-President of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Health Care, answered questions about pressing senior health care issues, including preserving Social Security and Medicare, and filling the gaps in prescription drug coverage.

This Congress, senior health care programs like Medicare and Social Security are the subjects of hot debate by law makers on Capitol Hill. Seniors and their families want to know how their benefits may be affected, and what their elected leaders are doing to make sure health coverage remains accessible, affordable, and comprehensive.

Rep. Weiner has been at the center of the debate, fighting to preserve the Medicare and Social Security trust funds, to enhance the range of services offered under the programs and, in particular, to provide a meaningful prescription drug benefit.

"Seniors have heard a lot about proposed changes to Social Security and Medicare, and they are understandably concerned," said Rep. Weiner. "During these demanding economic times, we’ve got to make sure that seniors have full access to quality, affordable health care."
