OLSEN TWINS FLUNK GEOGRAPHY!

FILMING MOVIE ABOUT NEW YORK IN…TORONTO

New York City -- Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are shooting a new feature film for Warner Brothers called “New York Minute”, in Toronto. Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn), who is the sponsor of legislation designed to prevent film productions from migrating from New York City to Canada, released the following statement:

“Someone should tell the Olsen twins that they missed New York City by only about 500 miles and 8 hours. I guess there wasn’t much time to work geography into their busy show business schedule.

“If you’re going to film a movie about New York City and call it ‘New York Minute’, is it too much to ask that you actually spend some time there? Talk about a Warner Brothers loony tune.”

In 1998, Canada implemented new tax credits to cover a percentage of labor costs incurred during film production. Recent estimates suggest that the United States has lost up to $4 billion in revenue, and as many as 25,000 jobs a year as a result of the credits.

Rep. Weiner is an original co-sponsor of the United States Independent Film and Television Production Incentive Act, which would provide a business tax credit to producers of film or television programs substantially produced in the United States, up to 25% of the first $25,000 of wages paid to any employee. The credit would be available to productions with costs of more than $500,000 and less than $10 million. To read Rep. Weiner's report on this subject, click here.
