CONGRESSMEN WEINER AND MEEKS RESPOND TO REP. PETER KING’S STATEMENTS ON HOMELAND SECURITY FUNDING

New York City - In response to Rep. Peter King accusing Senator Joseph Lieberman and “rural members” of the Congressional Black Caucus of fighting for an unfair distribution of homeland security dollars, Reps. Anthony Weiner (D - Queens & Brooklyn) and Gregory Meeks (D - Queens) released the following statement:

“We respect our friend Congressman Peter King and wish him all the best as Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. However, laying the blame for homeland security funding at the feet of “rural members” of the Black Caucus and Senator Joe Lieberman shows that he is still in denial.

“The fact of the matter is that these six Democrats or that one Democratic Senator have not made the disastrous decisions up to now. Republicans have control of the House, the Senate and the White House. They and they alone bear the burden of these policies. Reps. Sensenbrenner and Rogers, Senator Collins, Secretaries Tom Ridge and Mike Chertoff and President Bush are the people Congressman King should look to solve the problem.”
