WEINER CALLS ALITO AN "OPEN AND SHUT CASE"

CASEY VIEWS ALONE MAKE HIM UNACCEPTABLE

Washington DC - Yesterday morning President Bush nominated Federal Appeals Court Judge Samuel Alito to replace Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on the United States Supreme Court. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement:

“Yesterday, President Bush announced Samuel Alito to be his nominee to replace Justice O’Connor on the Supreme Court.

"In Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Judge Alito said that a woman needs her husband's permission in order to get an abortion. This extreme position makes Alito's nomination an open and shut case. Judge Alito is not an acceptable candidate for the Supreme Court.

"I urge my colleagues in the Senate to oppose Judge Alito's nomination."
