STATEMENT OF REP. ANTHONY WEINER ON FINAL FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDE

GOOD BYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE, WEINER SAYS

Queens, NY - Today, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) joined Queens residents in celebrating the final flight of the Concorde, with an early morning champagne toast. Rep. Weiner, who is the author of legislation to permanently ground the Concorde jet, released the following statement:

“While there may be some who will shed a tear over the final flight of the Concorde, there will be no crying in Queens today. For those of us who have had to live with its ear splitting racket as it crossed the skies over our homes and schools, we say ‘good bye and good riddance.’

“Nobody thinks that living near an airport will be like living near Kansas wheat fields, but the Concorde is 8 times louder than the loudest commercial jet. Since 1976, New Yorkers have had to stop whatever they were doing five times a day to cover their ears as the Concorde roared over head. This is one flight cancellation that was long overdue.”
