Unconfirmed Impact Candidates

    Unconfirmed Impact Candidates
Provided to the MEO by Independent Observers

    (last updated 09/01/2008)

Impact candidates residing in the list below were not confirmed by the NASA Meteoroid Environment Office at MSFC but meet one of the following criteria:

    1. The flash was confirmed by two or more independent observers. The flash lasts any number of fields, is any brightness, and exhibits a decreasing light curve. There is no indication of flash movement.
    2. The flash lasts 3 or more fields and exhibits a decreasing light curve. The flash is obvious in all fields and there is no indication of flash movement.
    3. The flash lasts 2 fields. The flash is easily identifiable (bright) in the second field and there is no indication of flash movement.

Flashes only 1 field in duration, unless confirmed in more than one telescope, are classified as cosmic rays. Flash movement, from field to field, indicates a satellite in the field of view. Decreasing light curves are indicative of the type of impact physics expected when meteoroids strike the moon.
