Water Activities
Water is abundant on the Chippewa, with over 1,300 lakes, 925 miles of streams,
and 400,000 acres of wetlands. Water orientated recreation such as fishing,
canoeing, camping,
water-skiing and swimming are popular.
Nine designated swimming beaches are found at National Forest campgrounds including:
South Pike Bay and the Norway Beach Recreation
Area near town of Cass Lake; Deer Lake, Williams Narrows and East Seelye
Bay northwest of Deer River; Clubhouse Lake and North Star near Marcell and
Mabel Lake and Stony Point in the Walker area. Rules are posted. There are no
lifeguards on duty.
