STAFF REQUIREMENTS - COMGBJ-05-0001 - IMPROVING TRANSPARENCY
IN THE 10 CFR SEC. 20.2002 PROCESS |
The staff, working with OGC, should develop options to enhance
public understanding and awareness of 10 CFR 20.2002 approvals
and provide recommendations to the Commission within 180 days of
the issuance of the SRM for this action. The staff’s recommendations
should identify potential adverse impacts on the NRC’s well-established
regulatory framework. One approach the staff should consider would
be to maintain an NRC webpage with an easily accessible, current
listing of 20.2002 requests with information or links related to
NEPA reviews. The staff should encourage stakeholder input by individuals
who may be directly affected by an NRC decision to approve a request
pursuant to 10 CFR 20.2002, to further ensure informed staff decisions
on such approvals.
