FYI From: NCES Webmaster at ed.gov Sent: Monday, October 04, 2004 4:45 PM Subject: Participation in Adult Education and Lifelong Learning: 2000-01 This is the first full report, released by NCES, using data from the Adult Education and Lifelong Learning Survey of the 2001 National Household Education Survey Programs (AELL-NHES:2001) on the educational activities of adults in the United States. The report shows that 46 percent of adults in the United States participated in some type of formal education between early 2000 and early 2001. Apart from looking at overall participation in formal educational activities, major topics addressed in the report include participation in various types of formal educational activities; characteristics of participating adults; educational experiences in college or university degree programs on a part-time basis, work-related courses, and personal interest courses; reasons for participation in work-related courses; characteristics of participants who received employer support; and characteristics of participants in work-related informal learning activities.
