Moore encourages participation in Congressional Arts Contest

(OVERLAND PARK, KAN.) – Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District - Kansas) invites high school students in the Third District to participate in the 24th Annual Artistic Discovery Congressional Arts Competition.

“I host this competition each year to encourage and recognize the rich artistic talents of high school students in the Third District of Kansas,” Moore said. “The students in my district are among the most talented in the nation. I look forward to sharing their artwork with the rest of the country as part of an exhibition in the U.S. Capitol.”

An Artistic Discovery is the annual nationwide Congressional Arts Competition initiated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Entries must be received via email by Friday, May 6, 2005, at 5:00 p.m. Winners will be selected by an independent art advisory panel. The winning entry will need to be framed by the student, at their own expense.

Each year, the winning piece of art from each congressional district is put on display in the Cannon Tunnel, an underground pedestrian walkway leading to the U.S. Capitol. Southwest Airlines has generously offered to fly the winning artist and two guests to Washington, D.C., for a reception and ribbon cutting ceremony in June.

For more information and complete contest guidelines, contact Moore’s Congressional Arts Competition Coordinator at moore.art@mail.house.gov or by telephone at 913-383-2013.
