Moore secures $10.3 million in federal funding for Johnson County projects

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District-KS) announced today that $10,384,250 in federal funds he requested for projects in Johnson County have been included in the FY 2005 omnibus appropriations bill. The bill has passed the House and Senate and awaits the President’s signature into law.

“One of my most important duties is working with local organizations to help accomplish goals that are important to our neighborhoods and communities,” said Moore. “It is gratifying to join with these groups to help improve the quality of services available to citizens in the Third District.”

Moore secured a total of $19,156,500 for Kansas projects in the 2005 omnibus appropriations bill. Since taking office in 1999, Moore has obtained an additional $90 million in federal funding for Kansas projects.

The requests benefiting Johnson County include:

* $125,000 to Mid America Nazarene University’s Criminal Justice Program;
* $138,000 for an ongoing study of flood control in the Brush Creek basin;
* $300,000 to continue the flood control study of Upper Turkey Creek;
* $150,000 to the Foundation on Aging for design/execution of a community based, long-term care plan for older adults;
* $300,000 in new start authority for preliminary engineering for the I-35 Fixed Guideway Project;
* $500,000 for buses and bus replacement for the Johnson County Transit System;
* $500,000 for the Mid America Regional Council Job Access and Reverse Commute Program;
* $2,000,000 for the purchase of a right-of-way for the proposed interchange at K-7 and 55th St./Johnson Drive in Shawnee;
* $5,750,000 for preliminary engineering and right-of-way for the future interchange on I-35 and Lone Elm Road [159th St.] in Olathe;
* $371,250 for a Korean War Memorial in Overland Park;
* $250,000 to the City of Mission for construction and expansion of a stormwater flow management system.
