Moore secures $7.3 million in federal funding for Wyandotte County projects

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District-KS) announced today that $7,372,250 in federal funds he requested for projects in Wyandotte County have been included in the FY 2005 omnibus appropriations bill. The bill passed the House and Senate and awaits the President’s signature into law.

“One of my most important duties is working with local organizations to help accomplish goals that are important to our neighborhoods and communities,” said Moore. “It is gratifying to join with these groups to help improve the quality of services available to citizens in the Third District.”

Moore secured a total of $19,156,500 for Kansas projects in the 2005 omnibus appropriations bill. Since taking office in 1999, Moore has obtained an additional $90 million in federal funding for Kansas projects.

The requests benefiting Wyandotte County include:

* $125,000 to Catholic Housing of Wyandotte County, Inc., for their Neighborhood Preservation Initiative;

* $375,000 for an ongoing study of levee system improvements on the Kansas and Missouri Rivers;

* $250,000 for continued construction of the Turkey Creek flood control project;

* $150,000 to the Quindaro Community Center for its computer learning center;

* $400,000 to Providence Medical Center for a chronic disease center;

* $1,000,000 for the Unified Government’s replacement of its bus fleet;

* $500,000 for the Unified Government’s Job Access and Reverse Commute Program;

* $4,500,000 for buses, transit centers and the Bus Rapid Transit Project for the Kansas City Area Transit Authority;

* $72,250 to El Centro, Inc. for infrastructure development at the El Centro Inc. Development Corporation’s Business Park.
