Moore to celebrate 68th birthday of Social Security

(LEAWOOD, KAN.) — To celebrate one of the most successful federal programs in the nation’s history, Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District—Kansas) will host a birthday party for Social Security on Thursday, August 14, at Leawood Town Village.

The event will include remarks from Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn, as well as John Garlinger, public affairs director for the regional Social Security office. Moore will speak about the importance of protecting Social Security for future generations and play “Happy Birthday” on his guitar.

“When I ran for Congress I pledged to protect and preserve both Social Security and Medicare,” Moore said. “We need to make sure these programs are there to provide for our children and grandchildren when they need it. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to fulfill our commitment to retirement and health care security.”

President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law on August 14, 1935.
