REPORTS

NCRP reports carry the full weight of the Council. They are reviewed by critical reviewers, usually four to eight Council members selected because of their expertise, and also by the full Council membership, Collaborating Organizations and organizations participating in NCRP's Special Liaison program. Comments from Distinguished Emeritus members and the Collaborating and Special Liaison Organizations are welcomed and given full consideration, but only Council members can register a vote on the disposition of a report. All comments received on a draft report are reviewed by at least the chairman of the committee and the staff person responsible for the report. Revisions are made on the basis of comments received and when a Council member votes contingent on change or a disapproval has been recorded, a written interaction between the committee and the Council member is required. A consensus favoring publication is required for release of a report. This has been interpreted as meaning that not more than two unresolved disapprovals remain following modification of the draft report on the basis of the comments proffered. In the event that three or more unresolved disapprovals remain, release requires approval by the Board of Directors with an opportunity provided for input to the Board decision by those involved.

COMMENTARIES >

NCRP commentaries are documents that provide preliminary evaluations, critiques, reviews and results of exploratory studies, or extensions of previously published NCRP reports on an accelerated schedule when time for the normal review process is not available. Approval is by the Board of Directors with degrees of involvement by other Council members dependent on the time available.

PRESIDENTIAL REPORTS >

Presidential Reports are documents developed by a scientific committee, reviewed by Council, and approved for publication by the President.

ANNUAL MEETING PROCEEDINGS >

Annual meeting proceedings provide a record of the formal presentations made at the scientific sessions of the meeting. The material is not edited by the NCRP, as is reflected by the statement included in the proceedings, "The material included in these proceedings has not been reviewed and represents the views of the authors and not necessarily those of the NCRP."

LAURISTON S. TAYLOR LECTURES >

Taylor Lectures on Radiation Protection and Measurement honor the first President of the NCRP and are an important part of each annual meeting. Each lecture is published in the proceedings of the annual meeting and as a separate entity (prior to 1995 by the NCRP and since 1995 in the journal Health Physics). The distinguished lecturers are selected by the Board of Directors. The lectures treat a topic related to radiation protection and measurement. The lectures, of course, are not edited by the NCRP.

SYMPOSIUM PROCEEDINGS >

NCRP symposium proceedings focusing on a subject of topical interest are occasionally sponsored or co-sponsored by the NCRP. Publication of proceedings by the NCRP, particularly when the Council is the sole sponsor, is possible, but each situation is handled on a case-by-case basis by the Board of Directors.

STATEMENTS >

NCRP statements are equivalent to NCRP reports as far as review procedures are concerned. They are, however, much more concise than NCRP reports, usually consisting of up to four pages.
