Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) issued the following statement today on the House and Senate agreement on a final bill that will implement the recommendations of the independent 9/11 Commission. Congresswoman Maloney was an early supporter of the Commission’s proposed reforms and an original sponsor of the “Ensuring Implementation of the 9/11 Commission Report Act” (H.R. 5017) in the 109th Congress.
“Three years ago, the 9/11 Commission gave us a solid blueprint for better security. The new Democratic Congress, working with the 9/11 families, has proven its commitment to the safety of the American people by pushing these important security reforms forward.
“High risk areas like New York will be better prepared to fight terrorist threats and our entire nation will be more secure when this important legislation is signed into law.”
