New Report: DHS's Shifting Explanations for Homeland Security Grant Cut |
Rep. Maloney releases compilation and analysis of explanations used by Chertoff and DHS officials |
WASHINGTON, DC – In an attempt to catalog the multitude of explanations the Department of Homeland Security has used to justify the huge cut in homeland security grants to New York City, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY-14) has released a report listing DHS’s reasons (click here for report).
According to the report, the explanations can be put in at least six distinct categories, some of which are contradictory. Those include: It’s Congress’s fault DHS needs to spread the wealth New York City has no national icons The funding request was improperly filed This year’s funding is consistent with historical levels Spending money outside of New York protects New Yorkers
“From the day they announced this crazy funding distribution, their explanations have been moving targets,” said Maloney. “They have given a variety of excuses, some of which actually contradict each other. It’s as if they’re even trying to convince themselves that they did a good job.” ### |
