Washington, DC -- Last night, Congressman Kevin McCarthy was unanimously elected by his House colleagues to fill a vacancy on the House Committee on Natural Resources.
“Being entrusted by my colleagues to serve on the House Committee on Natural Resources is an honor and another opportunity to voice our communities’ needs in Congress,” said McCarthy. “The Committee on Natural Resources has jurisdiction over many areas that affect our life, from American oil exploration that can reduce our dependence on foreign oil to fresh water that is the life blood of our rich and fertile agricultural fields in the Central Valley.”
The House Committee on Natural Resources has jurisdiction over oil exploration on public land, forest reserves and national parks created from the public domain, interstate compacts relating to apportionment of waters for irrigation purposes, and other issues relating to minerals, Native Americans, coastal management, and mining.
With this appointment, Congressman McCarthy now serves on the House Republican Steering Committee, the House Committee on Agriculture, the Committee on House Administration, the House Committee on Homeland Security, and the House Committee on Natural Resources.
