U.S. House Oversight Cmte. to Hold Hearing in NYC Asking Why Bush Admin. Halted Program for 9/11 Heroes
Congress to Examine Cancellation of National 9/11 Health Care Plan & How Decision May Affect NYC-Area Health Clinics
New York, NY – On January 22nd, the House Oversight Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement will convene a hearing in New York City entitled 9/11 Health: Why Did HHS Cancel Contracts to Manage Responder Health Care?  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has been invited to testify about why it abruptly halted a request for proposals to provide care for thousands of 9/11 responders and others from outside the tri-state area who are sick or injured as a result of the 9/11 attacks.  Witnesses will also discuss how this decision may affect the six NYC-area 9/11 health clinics, as well.

Subcommittee Chairman Edolphus Towns (D-NY) and Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) will be joined by Reps. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Vito Fossella (R-NY) and other NY elected officials, who will hear testimony from 9/11 responders and experts from the Laborers’ International Union of North America and others TBA.

Members of the media will need to provide press credentials to bring electronic equipment into the hearing; due to security procedures, attendees are encouraged to arrive well in advance of the hearing, preferably by 9:00 a.m.
