Rep. Maloney Congratulates the Daily News on its Pulitzer Win for 9/11 Health Editorials |
Maloney and NY Congressional Delegation Colleagues |
Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-14) congratulated the New York Daily News on its Pulitzer Prize win for distinguished editorial writing. In January, Rep. Maloney, along with Senators Schumer and Clinton and Reps. Hinchey, Serrano, Lowey, Clarke, Crowley, Nadler, Ackerman, and Engel wrote to the Pulitzer Prize Board and urged it to honor the News’s series of editorials on the health impacts of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“The Daily News’s powerfully written editorials helped change public policy to help thousands of Americans suffering as a result of 9/11,” said Rep. Maloney. “These editorials are journalism at its very finest. The Pulitzer Prize Board could not have made a better choice.”
“The News’s editorials commanded the attention of elected officials and members of the media to this escalating health crisis,” Maloney added. “In the wake of the News’s editorial series, reporters covering this story began to ask tougher questions, federal officials finally had to give real answers, and the President, for the very first time, included funding for 9/11 health treatment and monitoring in his budget.”
