WASHINGTON- Congressman McCarthy was named to the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture and the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management.
“At a time when the economic impacts of the catastrophic freeze are taking effect on our local farms and ranches, our community agriculture concerns need to be heard by the Federal Government,” said McCarthy. “We produce the best agriculture products in the world and being named to these two Subcommittees allows our farmers and ranchers to have a voice when Congress rewrites the farm bill this year.”
The House Agriculture Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture’s jurisdiction includes fruits and vegetables; honey and bees; marketing and promotion orders; plant pesticides, quarantine, adulteration of seeds, and insect pests; and organic agriculture.
The House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management’s jurisdiction includes programs and markets related to cotton, cottonseed, wheat, feed grains, soybeans, oilseeds, rice, dry beans, peas, and lentils; the Commodity Credit Corporation; crop insurance; and commodity exchanges.
The House Agriculture Committee will finalize its organizational and rule structure for the 110th Congress at a Business Meeting on Tuesday, January 23, at 1 p.m., EST (11 a.m. PST), in 1302 Longworth House Office Building.
